Commercial removals
What an office move actually involves.
Most of what my crew and I do commercially is not a single dramatic move. It is a Friday evening start, a weekend of careful work, and a business that opens on Monday with everyone sitting somewhere sensible and the kettle plugged in.
That is the whole job in a sentence. Everything below is about how you get there: what gets planned before the day, what happens to the things that cannot simply be put in a box, and what a commercial quote should tell you that a domestic one does not.
A ground-floor unit on a business park with a loading bay and a lift is a fast job. A second-floor office over a shop on a high street with a shared stair, a goods lift booking and a two-hour loading window is not, even if it is half the distance and half the desks. Both ends get looked at before either gets priced.
Keeping the doors open
Moving without shutting the business.
The default is out of hours. A Friday evening start gives a full weekend, which is enough for most single-floor offices, and staff arrive Monday to a working desk rather than a stack of crates. Where a weekend is not enough, the move gets phased: the departments that can work from anywhere go first, the ones that cannot go last, and each phase is planned so nobody spends a working day unable to do their job.
What makes that work is decided weeks before, not on the night. A floor plan for the new place with every desk numbered, matching numbers on everything that is moving, and one person on your side who can make a decision at eleven on a Saturday night without ringing anyone. That last one matters more than it sounds.
IT and equipment
What we will move, and what needs your IT people.
We move workstations, monitors, docks, printers, server cabinets and the contents of comms rooms, and we crate and pad them properly rather than stacking them in a van and hoping. Screens travel upright in purpose-made crates, not flat under something heavier.
What we do not do is decommission and recommission your network. Unracking a live server, labelling and lifting patching, and bringing the whole thing back up at the other end is a job for your IT provider, and any removals firm that tells you otherwise is selling you a risk. The sensible arrangement is that they handle the disconnect and the rebuild, we handle everything in between, and the three of us agree the order of the day in advance.
Say what is going before you get a quote. Server cabinets, safes, plan chests, large-format printers and anything that needed an engineer to install it are all priced separately, and finding one on the night is how a move overruns.
Liability
Insurance, and the question worth asking.
Commercial kit is worth more per item than household furniture and the cover limits matter accordingly. We carry goods in transit insurance and will send the certificate before you book rather than after you ask twice.
The question worth putting to any firm, including us, is what the per-item limit is and whether anything you own exceeds it. A single server or a large-format plotter can be worth more than an entire house move, and a headline "fully insured" that turns out to cap at a few hundred pounds an item is not cover, it is a phrase.
Pricing
What a commercial quote should itemise.
Access at both ends, stated as an assumption you can check: which floor, whether there is a lift and whether it can be booked, where the vehicle parks and how far the carry is. Crew size and the hours included, and what the rate becomes if the job runs past them. Crates and materials, supplied or not. Dismantling and reassembly of desks and storage. Anything named separately, meaning the safe, the server cabinet, the plotter. Insurance cover and the per-item limit. And the out-of-hours position, because an evening and weekend job priced at weekday rates is a quote that is going to change.
A single number with none of that behind it is not cheaper than an itemised one. It is less specified, which is a different thing, and the gap usually shows up on the night.

How much do office removals cost?
It is priced on volume, access at both ends and the hours, not on floor area, and out of hours work is priced differently from a weekday. A small office of six to eight desks moving across town with lift access at both ends is a very different job from the same desks coming down a shared staircase onto a high street with a loading restriction. My crew and I survey both ends before quoting, and the price is fixed in writing before anything is booked.
Can you move our office at the weekend?
Yes, and for most businesses that is the right answer. A Friday evening start gives a full weekend, which is enough for most single-floor offices. We work evenings, weekends and bank holidays, and the out of hours element is priced into the quote rather than added afterwards.
What should be on an office relocation checklist?
The short version: agree the new floor plan and number every desk position, appoint one decision-maker for the day, book any goods lift and loading bay at both ends, get your IT provider booked for the disconnect and the rebuild, label everything against the floor plan, and tell whoever is moving you about the safe, the server cabinet and anything else that needed an engineer to install it. Do you move IT equipment and servers?
We move and protect them, including server cabinets and the contents of comms rooms, crated and padded rather than stacked. We do not decommission or recommission a live network. That is your IT provider’s job, and the three of us agree the order of the day beforehand so nothing waits on anything.
Do we have to pack the office ourselves?
You can, and crates work far better than boxes for an office because they stack squarely and travel on a trolley. Most businesses have staff clear their own desk and pen tray into a numbered crate and leave the furniture, the IT and the storage to us. Tell us which way you want to do it when you enquire so it is priced correctly.
Are you insured for business equipment?
Yes, goods in transit cover, and we will send the certificate before you book. Ask us, and anyone else you are considering, for the per-item limit rather than just the headline figure, because a single server or plotter can be worth more than a whole house move.
How far in advance should we book an office move?
Four to six weeks is comfortable for a single floor, longer if a goods lift has to be booked or a landlord has to be involved, and both are more common than people expect. The survey can happen much earlier than the move and costs nothing, so there is no reason to leave it.
